Retail Technology Trends | MobiDev

This is a post I have been regularly updating for MobiDev each year since 2021. As a software development company, MobiDev attracts its clients through understanding of industry trends and technologies across various sectors. Having a deep understanding of those industries and sectors and their technologies helps them relate to CTOs across the globe. In this case, having a comprehensive understanding of the latest innovations in retail technology was the goal. I leveraged my personal work experience in retail and my tech background to create this piece, and it paid off, landing MobiDev on page 1 for the Google search keyword ‘retail technology.’

I structured the piece around seven growing and changing retail technologies and practices:

  • Balancing in-person and online shopping experiences.
  • indoor positioning technologies for shoppers and workers.
  • Augmented reality
  • Store automation
  • AI data science and demand forecasting
  • Robotics
  • Voice commerce

I leveraged my personal experience from working in a department store for several years. In that role, I used a Zebra TC-51 Android portable computer for my everyday tasks. I’ve always been curious about mobile devices, which is what gravitated me toward my partnership with Payette Forward.

I realized that many of the technologies we use with our smartphones for consumer purposes like virtual fitting room solutions, room scanning, and AR navigation could perhaps be applied to my job. I imagined a future where buy online pick up in store (BOPIS) workers preparing orders for fulfillment could use indoor AR navigation systems to navigate to item locations, fulfillment efficiency.

There’s much room for improvement in SERP position, but I’m proud to have come this far. I can’t wait to see what I’m able to do next.
